Fitness 2
This course is designed to complement material learned from intro to fitness class from their freshman year. Students will become familiar with a variety of strength and cardiovascular training methods including yoga, ROM WOD, HIIT, walking and circuit training. The student will design and implement his or her own personal fitness program that will help them progress towards their fitness goals. Throughout the course students will assess and evaluate their levels of fitness and make modifications to their program to further their level of physical wellness.
Golf
Students will learn the basics of how to grip a golf club, swing a golf club, and golf course etiquette. Skills will be applied in a driving range format, as well as through different challenges and culminating in a small round of golf in a simulated course on the field.
Project Adventure
Project Adventure is an adventure based curriculum where students will work on social and emotional skills while completing team initiatives and challenges. This course focuses on creating meaningful bonds by offering opportunities to be vulnerable and stretch your comfort zone. We begin by playing games and establishing group norms, then we complete team challenges on our low ropes course and we finish by using the high ropes. Students are asked to stretch themselves as far as they can.
Ultimate Frisbee
Students will learn proper throwing technique and rules of Ultimate Frisbee. Students will be taught how to grip and throw the forehand, and backhand throws. Skills will be applied to games after skill instruction
Cancer prevention and self checks
Cancer affects thousands of families every day, and survival increases dramatically with early detection. We will focus on what to look for, risk factors, when to tell someone, and why people don't get help. We cover and array of cancers but specifically look at breast cancer, testicular cancer, oral cancer, lung cancer, and skin cancer.
Mental Illness
Continuing our theme of self advocacy and learning when/how to ask for help we will cover issues related to mental illness. We being by discussing stigma around mental illness, then go into warning sign, and the role of the media. We will focus on a number of different mental illnesses but will touch upon anxiety, and body image issues.
Sleep
Students will learn about the positive affects of proper sleep. We will also practice healthy habits around sleep and discuss or journal outcomes.
