Units and Essential Questions
Here is a list of our units of study for the year:
Physical Features - Includes land and water forms, and how where you live affects how you live
Early Humans - Includes the Theory of Evolution, study of hominids (like "Lucy"), hunter-gatherers, and Ötzi the Ice Man
Mesopotamia - Includes the intro. and use of G.R.A.P.E.S. - Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economy, Social structure to organize our learning
Ancient Egypt - Includes reiteration of G.R.A.P.E.S. to explore the civilization
Africa - Includes basic geography, ancient kingdoms, European colonization, Apartheid (and Nelson Mandela), and the Lost Boys of Sudan
Middle East - Includes geography, monotheistic religions, and economy (oil)
Asia - Includes basic geography, ancient China, ancient India, Malala, and Mahatma Gandhi
Essential questions, to be considered throughout the year:
How does where you live affect how you live?
How can we understand multiple values and beliefs?
How have people changed the earth, and how has the earth changed people?
What does it mean to be a global citizen?
