Will a student receive a letter grade at the end of the semester?
Students in grades K-5 will not receive a letter grade. Instead, students will receive a score on the report card for each WASD Learning Target that has been assessed based on the district rubric as shown below.
How will Work and People Skills scores and WASD Learning Target scores be determined?
WASD Learning Target scores will be determined by a student’s demonstration of learning on summative classroom assessments. Summative classroom assessments are the final assessments used to determine a student’s level of proficiency. Work and People Skills scores are determined based on a collection of evidence over time.
Can a student’s Work and People Skills score and/or WASD Learning Targets score change?
Yes. Scores will be updated based on the most recent evidence collected per learning target.
Why are Work and People Skills scores and WASD Learning Target scores communicated separately?
Reporting Work and People Skills scores separately from WASD Learning Target scores allows teachers to communicate specific skills that may impact student learning. The fundamental belief is that academic grades should only communicate student achievement at that moment in time. The Work and People Skills assessed are: Work Habits, Personal Responsibility, and Social Skills.
How does a student earn a 3?
A score of 3 means a student has fully demonstrated content proficiency of the learning target at that point in the school year.
Can I see how my student is progressing?
Yes, parents/guardians and students have access to evidence of student learning via quarterly progress reports and through our student information system, Infinite Campus.
Please contact your respective building principal if you have additional questions.
