Academic and Career Planning (ACP)
ACP is intended to equip students and their families with the tools necessary to make more informed choices about postsecondary education, training, and careers for life after high school. It is part of the Department of Public Instruction's overall vision for every student to graduate high school academically, socially, emotionally, and life ready.

Yearly, all Wausau school district students will:
❖ Complete ACP Xello Lessons
❖ Participate in Course Registration Presentations
❖ Participate in Advisory Meetings
❖ Complete Leader in Me WIGS (Wildly Important Goals)
❖ Have access to *Career Center Services
In addition, each grade will complete specific ACP Portfolio Tasks through out the school year as outlined in the corresponding the ACP checklist.

Labor Market Information
Labor market information (LMI) can help students understand which jobs are in demand and well-compensated in all subject areas. In addition it can also help school districts develop cutting-edge Career and Technical Education programs by uncovering the transferable skills students will need in the future.
Family Engagement
The Wausau School District engages parents/guardians in academic and career planning:
Annually informing parents about what academic and planning services their child receives.
Providing parents with multiple opportunities during each school year to participate in their child’s career and academic planning.
Updating parents on the progress of their child’s academic and career planning throughout highschool.

The Wausau School District supports students in academic and career planning by:
Engaging student participation in course registration
ACP/School Counseling Services
Access to a Career Center
Connecting students to teachers and other staff to develop and implement each student’s academic and career plan
Postsecondary Education and Workforce Preparation
Academic and Career Planning is delivered via multiple career pathways and utilizing the software platform Xello. The ACP support incorporates:
Career and Technical Education
Dual credit courses that provide college credit from partnering institutions
Comprehensive college preparatory classes
College credit opportunities: Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Early College Credit and Start College Now programs
Youth Apprenticeship and other job training opportunities
Professional Development for Staff
The ACP Planning Committee meets annually to review each building’s ACP initiatives and determines professional development needs for each individual building.
Community Partnerships
The Wausau School district collaborates with multiple businesses. These relationships have been developed through strong partnerships with our leading community organizations and business leaders.
Individualized ACP Support
Students are provided with individualized support, appropriate to the student’s needs, from staff to assist with completing and annually updating an academic career plan.
Access for all Students
If a student has a disability, the student’s academic and career plan will be available to the student’s Individual Education Program team. The student’s IEP team may take the student’s academic and career plan into account when developing the student’s transition services.
Current Progress and Future Goals
As part of our strategic plan, the district is focused on developing and implementing equitable instructional practices that focus on the individual needs of our students so they are prepared for any postsecondary path that they choose.
Access to ACP Software Tool
Wisconsin State Statute 115.28(59) requires that school districts be provided computer software to be used statewide to provide academic and career planning (ACP) services to students in grade 6-12. Xello has allowed students to access a personal account provided by the school. Students can use this software to access career-related assessments, explore online career and college profiles, and get information about financial aid and employment. Additionally, the INSPIRE feature of Xello used by the Wausau School District allows students to connect with employers and businesses.
