Waukee, IA- Waukee Northwest Theatre Arts will present “Mean Girls High School Version” with a book by Tina Fey, Music by Jeff Richmond, Lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and directed by Katie Payton. The show will take place at the Northwest High School Auditorium with an opening performance on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 7 p.m. and a closing performance on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 2 p.m. The theater is located at 655 NW N 10th St, Waukee, IA 50263.


Plot: How fetch! Mean Girls: The Musical hits the stage with your favorite characters from the movie, powerful music, and timely pop culture. This cautionary tale tells the story of Cady Heron, the new girl at North Shore High School in Chicago, desperate to fit in and find friends. Janis and Damian befriend the new girl, and when The Plastics set their sights on Cady, Janis convinces naive Cady to be their “friend” in order to bring down Queen Bee Regina George’s reign. Along the way, Cady loses herself, her friends, and her crush, all for the chance to be popular and loved. When dethroned Regina gets revenge by releasing the Burn Book, Cady is brought down and must mend her broken relationships with Janis, Aaron, and even Regina. With dynamic and powerful songs, Mean Girls is an anthem to friendship, loyalty, girl power, and being true to yourself.

Waukee Northwest Theatre Arts’ production of Mean Girls High School Version is proud to produce an astounding show featuring over 50 cast members and 50 crew members. 


Waukee Northwest Theatre Arts is known for its outstanding productions and has received many awards in it’s short 2.5 year history. Awards include Outstanding Musical Production, Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Orchestra, 4 Outstanding Technical Design awards, and 4 Outstanding Performance awards from the Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards for its production of Chicago: Teen Edition in 2023. Northwest Theatre arts also received Outstanding Overall Technical and Creative Achievement, Outstanding Student Orchestra, and 4 Outstanding Technical Design awards from the Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards for its production of The SpongeBob Musical in 2022. In the fall of 2023, Northwest Theatre Arts’ Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead was honored to be selected as a Mainstage Performance for the Iowa Thespian Festival.


Northwest High School Auditorium is an excellent performance venue, featuring state of the art lighting and sound systems, over 1,000 comfortable seats, and an intimate, close feeling between the stage and audience.
