Saving water in your school

Sponsored by Young Water Dragons

Water Saving Week is all about saving water, and on Wednesday 21st March 2018, we are looking to get schools across the nation saving water.

We've provided loads of downloadable resources, so scroll down to take a look at them and get inspired. Why not have a Water Saving Week assembly, talk about the water cycle in science or geography or get the eco club to do a water audit to see how much water you could save? Why not have a poetry competition on the theme of our most precious resource or get your students to make a model of the water cycle? Whatever you do, we'd love to hear about it, and you could even win prizes if you Tweet #WaterSavingWeek!

Not-so-fun-fact:

Half of England’s rivers are over-abstracted. This puts aquatic ecosystems and wildlife at threat. Using water efficiently means that we can minimise the amount of additional water resources being taking out of our rivers and aquifers, especially as demands are rising. Additionally, efficient water use makes our supply more resilient against impacts from climate change, such as droughts.

Top tip:

One sheet of A4 uses 10 litres of water to produce, so try and make sure it’s only used when essential.

The utility sector is facing a skills crisis - particularly in water. By 2024, water companies will need to have replaced their entire workforce! So it's essential and timely to encourage young people to become excited by the water sector as a career. Investing in future skills and talent is critical to ensure that the water sector remains fit for purpose and delivers the outcomes current and future customers will be expecting. The Future Water Association help to tackle this by running Young Water Dragons. More info here.
