Students in the 8th grade Human Development class have a parenting education component built into this class. This part of the class is 25% of their grade.
Our 8th grade students will take the Baby Think It Over Simulator for a 24 hour assignment (some students and/or parents request a weekend instead)
Baby Think It Over Project Information:
- Baby Think It Over is a baby simulator doll that weighs as much as the average newborn baby and also cries like a newborn baby.
- The student is required to take the baby for a 24 hour assignment that starts during their Human Development class period and end during that period the next school day. Student's also have the option of taking the baby for a weekend.
- The student's parent/guardian MUST sign a consent form in order for the student to take Baby Think It Over, stating that they recognize your responsibility and the cost of the assignment should the baby have to be replaced.
During a simulation:
- RealCare Baby cries for care at all hours, day and night
- caregiver has to figure out what Baby needs: feeding, burping, rocking, diapering
- caregiver wears unique wireless ID to ensure accountability
- RealCare Baby's computer tracks its care and safe handling
- detailed data is downloaded after the simulation, including exact times of missed care & specific mishandling—Shaken Baby, head support failure, wrong positioning and rough handling
