About Watertown Public Schools Performing Arts

Musical skills are embedded in other disciplines - analysis within a holistic context; combining abstract thinking with concrete practice. Resisting superficial and impersonal assessments that label students and distort their learning, music instead respects a student’s personal development and timeline of individual growth. A musical education allows students to discover and develop their own unique intelligences and learning styles while developing healthy and resilient social-emotional habits.

Watertown students begin their music education in preschool and continue with general music classes until 8th grade. In addition to the required general music classes, in which students sing, dance, play instruments, analyze, create and reflect, students can also choose to participate in the orchestra, band, percussion, jazz band and choral programs.

At the high school, in addition to the traditional music ensembles, we also offer classes in electronic music, guitar and integrated general music. Students who wish to participate at an even higher level can audition for our select jazz band, the Watertones (our acapella singers) or the annual spring musical.
