Background: The Town of Watertown and the Watertown Public Schools are planning for extensive renovations or replacement of the High School. Built in 1929, Watertown High School is one of the oldest school buildings in the district. In December, 2017, after the fourth year of submitting a Statement of Interest, the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) accepted Watertown into their Core Building Program. This action started a multi-year process in which Watertown and the MSBA will undertake a major renovation or replacement of the High School. A School Building Committee was created in March, 2018, to oversee this process as well as the Elementary Schools Project. Below are links to relevant documents and websites.
Update: August 16, 2018 - Steps 1-4 in the Eligibility Period (see Major Modules in the MSBA Core Building Program) have been completed. The next steps, to be completed this fall, include a vote by the Town Council to approved funding for a feasibility study and execution of a Feasibility Study Agreement with the MSBA. Once these steps are completed, the School Building Committee will begin Module 2, which involves hiring an Owner’s Project Manager (OPM) and Architect for the high school project. This project team will undertake the feasibility study.
