At Watauga, we think of everyone here as family especially the people who are a part of our Orchestra. As soon as you walk into those band/ orchestra room doors you are automatically a part of the WHS Orchestra family and you will forever be a part of that family no matter what. We do anything to make the Watauga High School a fun and musical place. We are a hard-working group and would love for more hardworking people to come and join us in showcasing the amazing art of Orchestra!
We have 2 Orchestra ensemble opportunities at WHS! We have an Intermediate Orchestra that is open to anyone and we also have an Advanced Orchestra that requires an audition. We have all kinds of instruments that consist of Violins, Violas, Cellos, and Basses! We play all different types of music in the WHS Orchestra. It ranges from Roman Folk Dances to Pop songs like Taylor Swift's Love Story. But the most important thing is we have fun and goof off as we are learning.
We also like to take our talent on the road and just right down the hall to the WHS Auditorium. We go to competitions, such as MPA ( major assessment event for secondary music programs in which a musical performance is evaluated on specified criteria ), Western Regional Orchestra, and many other competitions. We love to go and compete because we are open to any opportunity that will get us feedback to make us better. We also host a clinic for the Middle School Orchestras in Watauga County that is called All County Orchestra. In All County Orchestra, we learn a couple of songs that day that help with technique and they put your playing skills to the test but are also a lot of fun. After a full day of learning and connecting with other musicians we perform the songs we learned that day for friends and family and we eat pizza and sit and socialize with people that share some of the same interests as us.
