Band begins in 6th Grade in Watauga County Schools! Students learn instrument care, assembly, posture, playing position, and how to make their first sounds at the beginning of the school year. They then progress to music literacy and ensemble playing as the year continues and share their progress in our Winter concert and Spring concert, in December and May respectively.
Choosing an Instrument
If you are interested in buying an instrument, please set your musician up for success!!! Often the older instruments are built in a way that will last, as well as being repairable. Some brands of instruments are not repairable and thus need to be replaced. High quality instruments can be repaired and are often easier for the musician to play. Check out this 'What is the best brand for beginner instrument' post for a well laid out explanation. Below are some well known, repairable, time tested instrument brands to look for. These lists are not extensive. Feel free to reach out to Ms. Scarborough or a reputable music store for information on a particular instrument you may already have or be looking at purchasing.
