All students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be issued a device (either an iPad or a laptop computer) for educational purposes. At Warwick, we believe every student deserves access to modern learning tools without an extra burden on household budgets.
$0 Annual Fee: There is no upfront cost or registration fee to use a school device.
Pay-per-Incident: A repair or replacement fee is assessed only if the device is damaged or requires replacement.
Responsibility: Taking proper care of your device means you will never pay a dime.
Accidental and preventable damage refers to physical damage that occurs during everyday use and impairs the function or safety of the device.
Examples include but are not limited to:
Dropping the device because you were not carrying it with two hands.
Spilling a drink on the device.
Storing a device in a bag alongside a water bottle.
A fall or impact that cracks the screen or casing.
Tripping over a charging cord, causing damage to the port or device.
Closing the laptop lid on objects that crack the screen.
Carrying a laptop by picking it up solely by the screen.
Throwing a backpack containing a laptop or iPad.
Leaving a device outside in the rain.
If damage to a device is considered accidental and preventable, staff and students will be charged a fraction of the repair based on the number of incidents they cause each year.
For example: Broken laptop screens cost between $250 and $399 to repair, but we will only bill users $50 for the first damage, $150 for the second damage, and $250 for three or more damages in one year.
Staff or students who intentionally damage a district-owned device will be charged the full replacement cost. A pattern of repeated recklessness or willful disregard for equipment care will be classified as intentional damage and billed accordingly.
The full replacement cost will be charged for any device, charger, or cord that is lost or stolen.
Stolen Items: Stolen devices must be reported to school administration immediately.
Lost Accessories: Power cords and chargers lost during the school year must be replaced at full cost before a replacement is issued.
Damage caused simply by time, age, and continuous normal use is neither intentional nor accidental. Items damaged by normal wear and tear will be replaced or repaired at no cost to the student or staff member. Students should report issues to a teacher or administrator who can submit a tech request for the replacement.
Examples include:
Battery losing its ability to hold a charge
Key lettering fading
Broken zippers or straps on laptop bags
