Co-op Requirements:

Cooperative education is a paid educational program consisting of in-school instruction combined with program related on-the-job work experience in a business or industrial establishment. These are planned experiences supervised by the school and the employer to ensure that each phase contributes to the student's Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and Career Pathway.

Students interested in enrolling in a work-based learning experience (Co-op) at WEHS must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • 2.0 overall GPA and B average in pathway courses

  • Attendance: no more than 15 unexcused absences of their junior year.

  • No suspensions or major behavior concerns

  • CTE teacher recommendation in concentrated pathway (3 or more courses in a CTE pathway)

See Rule/Procedures for detailed list of student expectations

Things to consider before committing to co-op:

  • The student is responsible for securing a place of employment that satisfies approval criteria as stated by the Work-Based Learning Manual.

  • Students must be able to transport themselves to and from the co-op placement.

  • You are an employee first during the designated co-op time. This means you may miss pep rallies, assemblies, field trips, etc. due to co-op obligations.

  • Seniors have priority in terms of co-op opportunities. Juniors are allowed and encouraged to inquiry about co-op opportunities but space is limited.
