Essential Skills Grow With Our Students

Developing workplace-ready graduates doesn't begin in high school. Warren County Public Schools intentionally develops essential skills throughout a student's educational journey, beginning with foundational leadership and learning behaviors in the earliest years and progressing to authentic career and workplace experiences in high school.

Through embedded instruction, Leader in Me, career exploration, career pathways, leadership opportunities, and experiences with business and community partners, students have repeated opportunities to learn, practice, apply, and demonstrate the skills necessary for success in school, work, and life.

Building the Foundation

The foundation for workplace success begins early. Through classroom instruction, school routines, collaborative learning, and leadership opportunities, students begin developing communication, problem-solving, responsibility, perseverance, goal-setting, teamwork, and pride in quality work.

Leader in Me

WCPS's districtwide Leader in Me partnership with FranklinCovey provides a shared framework for developing leadership and life skills from an early age. Leader in Me reinforces many of Kentucky's Essential Skills, including personal responsibility, initiative, goal-setting, communication, collaboration, adaptability, and problem-solving.

Leadership begins early. Students learn to lead themselves, work effectively with others, and positively contribute to their school and community.

EXPLORE - Middle School

Connecting Interests to Opportunities

In middle school, students begin connecting their interests and strengths to future possibilities. Career exploration and exposure to high school career pathways help students understand the connection between what they learn today and where it can take them tomorrow.

Students continue to practice essential skills through academics, Leader in Me, collaborative learning, leadership, career exploration, and interactions with business and community partners.

SCK LAUNCH

In eighth grade, WCPS students participate in SCK LAUNCH, connecting them with employers and career opportunities throughout South Central Kentucky. Students explore careers while hearing directly from employers about the skills that lead to workplace success, including communication, dependability, teamwork, initiative, adaptability, problem-solving, and professionalism.

Students begin connecting the skills they practice in school today with the skills employers will expect tomorrow.
