About the "ILP" Process:
Students begin the ILP Process in Grade 6 during which time they explore their own interests and skills. Based on completed interest and/or skills assessments, students will be connected to suggested careers to explore. These results are included in their school Leadership (Leader in Me) Portfolio site or slide show which students are encouraged to review and share with their parents/guardians. The ILP journey only evolves from the initial Grade 6 career exploration and conversations about the ILP at home foster this growth.
Student Instructions:
These instructions are very basic with the understanding that a student has already created a Google Site or Google Slideshow and is just adding information to it. It may be helpful for a teacher to “model” these step-by-step instructions and provide additional instructions for creating, editing, and publishing a Google Site or Google Slides, as needed.
STEP #1: Open your Leadership (Leader in Me) Portfolio Google Site or Slides.
STEP #2: Add a page or slide and name it ILP / Career Exploration.
STEP #3: Now visit one of the free career interest survey sites and complete the survey by following the prompts. Suggested sites are Career One Stop or My Next Move.
STEP #4: Review your interest survey results. Specifically, look through the recommended careers - pay particular attention to the description, education requirements, salary, and job outlook.
STEP #5: Pick the top 3 careers that most interest you. On your ILP / Career Exploration page/slide - create a textbox, identify your top 3 career choices, and then briefly describe each career and state why you “like” each career.
STEP #6: (OPTIONAL) You may choose to download a pdf file of your interest survey results and embed that on your ILP / Career Exploration page/slide.
STEP #7: Share and discuss your Career Exploration results with your parents/guardians.
