Professional Visibility

Although the clinic is considered a public setting, the reception area is likely to be "closed" when school age children are available for sessions (eg. evenings and Saturdays). For this reason, and in keeping with professional liability insurance, a parent is required to be present during sessions for the purpose of professional visibility. 

Ideally, a parent would observe the instruction so strategies can be practiced at home. Understandably, some children feel uncomfortable having their parents so close. To accommodate, there are two waiting areas available at the clinic: 1) Just outside the door of the second-floor office; 2) First floor reception area. 

To provide every opportunity possible for reading processing skills to improve, it is important sessions not be interrupted. For this reason, it is recommended siblings not be present.
