KS4
GCSE Curriculum
Studying French at GCSE level is non-compulsory. The course is delivered over five one hour lessons per fortnight and we follow the Edexcel specification. Students are examined equally in the four skills, including listening, reading, speaking and writing. There is a strong focus on learning grammar, vocabulary and practising translation skills.
Homework Tasks
Homeworks are set weekly and a strong emphasis is placed on vocabulary learning. Students use MEMRISE and SENECA to practise and learn topic vocabulary and grammar. These are websites which promote long term memory through repetition of topic vocabulary and also provide opportunities for grammar and verb practice. In addition, each student has their own paid subscription to Language Gym. https://uk.language-gym.com
Assessment
Students are assessed termly in the four skills. Typically these tests are spread through Autumn 2, Spring 2 and Summer 2 of Year 9 and 10 and in Year 11, students are assessed in all skills during their Mock exam period. In addition, they are given a 1:1 mock speaking exam in the summer of Year 10 and the autumn of Year 11. In class vocabulary tests are arranged by the class teacher.
