Being mindful helps people do better in just about every part of life, like focusing on homework or feeling less stressed out. Practicing mindfulness a little bit every day helps you to build this valuable skill.
Think of your mind as a snow globe. We are constantly shaking up our snow globes and busying our minds. We wake up and start shaking, our thoughts start racing and we start practising distraction.
We are masters of distraction. Every quiet or slow moment we fill with talking, gaming, watching or surfing the web. In these modern times you can rarely be bored let alone practice allowing our snow globes to settle.
Mindfulness is practising allowing our snow globe to settle, the water become clear and our minds still. It takes a lot of practice. However once you can settle your mind you can see things clearer, gain confidence, become more in control of your thoughts and actions.
The modern world encourages us to allow ourselves to be run on autopilot. We keep going and going and going. time passes quickly.
Did you really enjoy that gig or were you distracted?
Did you taste that meal or just eat it quickly whilst watching television?
Are you really listening to that person or are you thinking about something else?
