Module 2:

Researching to Teach Others: Adaptations and the Wide World of Frogs

Unit 2

In Unit Two, students read a nonfiction text to learn about amphibians & reptiles and about the glass frog, the water-holding frog and the amazon horned frog.

During this module, students begin learning how to collect information about animals through research and different resources.

Building Background Knowledge

We started this unit by building background information by learning important vocabulary. Once we learned the important vocabulary, students created vocabulary posters to help teach others what these words mean.

Amphibians & Reptiles

Students read all about amphibians and reptiles. Once finished reading, students completed a venn-diagram to help them compare and contrast the two types of animals. They finished the lesson by writing a constructed paragraph about amphibians and reptiles.

The Glass Frog

After learning how to use a nonfiction text to collect data about animals, students collected information about why the glass frog is so hard to see. Students then took their research notes and wrote a paragraph describing and explaining what makes the glass frog hard to see.

Unit 3

In Unit Three, students begin their own research project on an animal of their choosing. Students then use books, websites, and videos to help them collect the information they need to write their essays.

By the end of this unit, students will have written a five-paragraph essay describing their animal and the adaptations it has to help them survive. They will also create a presentation or video to teach others about their animal
