Goals
Appropriate to their grade level, students will learn to:
Expand their Italian vocabulary and express their interests, daily life, and ideas while interacting in real-life situations in the target language.
Develop proficiency in all modes of communication by interacting with others in a variety of contexts, interpreting resources of different types (written, spoken, and recorded), and presenting information in multiple formats (speeches, visual and written materials, and giving instructions).
Gain knowledge of Italian culture, including traditions, festivities, food, regional differences, and history.
General informations
I am looking forward to a successful year of learning the Italian language and exploring Italian culture. In our classroom, students will have many opportunities to communicate in Italian with their classmates and to look beyond our borders as we learn interesting and meaningful aspects of a different culture.
This is a proficiency-based class, and we will not use a traditional textbook. Instead, students will learn through thematic units that include authentic resources such as songs, videos, and other materials from Italy.
Things you should know about our class:
Italian class meets four times during a six-day rotating schedule.
Students will be assessed using the three modes of communication: Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational.
Duolingo is a weekly assignment and is due every Friday by the end of the day.
Students are offered retake opportunities for tests and quizzes.
Extra help is available on Mondays and Thursdays from 2:30–3:30.
Grading:
Final grades are based on a variety of assessments in the following categories:
Proficiency (quizzes/tests and projects): 75%
Classwork (Duolingo and any activity completed in class): 17%
Self-Proficiency: 8%
