Guide to Research & Writing in Social Studies at Walpole High School
This document has been created by the Social Studies teachers at Walpole High School to help students conduct research, write effectively, and properly cite secondary and primary sources. This is meant to be a resource that students refer to regularly over the course of the school year. The teachers consulted a variety of sources when compiling this document and these documents have been referenced in the Bibliography on the last page.
Students enrolled in history classes at Walpole are expected to regularly research, analyze primary and secondary sources, and properly cite any and all resources.
Additionally, all students will use Chicago style for formatting and citations. One of the best resources for Chicago style citations comes from Purdue University - Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL). If and when students have questions about research, formatting, citations, bibliography, or anything else related to sourcing and writing, students should consult the Purdue OWL website.

Additionally, Ms. Tighe created a great video to help students navigate the expectations of Chicago style formatting and citation with the Purdue OWL website.
