Note taking is an important school skill that will help you in all types of classes going forward. The purpose of taking notes is to review, summarize, and process information in a way you can understand it better. Good quality notes help you review and study a lot of material for exams. And like any important skill, taking good and helpful notes takes lots of practice over time. It's definitely worth the effort!
Work sample: This is a set of notes taken in Cornell style. Notice the 1/3, 2/3s division of the paper, with general topics on the left, and deeper explanations and detail on the right. The general topics are often in the form of a question. Vocabulary is highlighted, and summary at the bottom pulls it all together.
Work sample: This is a set of notes taken in a visual style. They are sometimes referred to as sketch notes. Notice how simple drawings and graphics show important information and how it is interrelated. Because there is a great deal of decision making regarding what to draw and emphasize, this type of note taking can be very effective. As material gets increasingly complicated, added text may help.
