Hi Ms. Molnar!!
Helping Out, One Serving At A Time
Fundraising done in a more expressive and sociable way.
The members of Chapter 1006 of the National Honors Art Society sponsored an Empty Bowls fundraising event on November 25, 2024 and with a small $7 dollar minimum donation, teachers were able to come in for a bite to eat and socialize with other teachers and students, as well! Since 2006, the Wallkill Valley Community has been involved with the organization of Empty Bowls. While some years included helping on the sidelines, this year, we were proud to host this very special event.
The purpose of Empty Bowls is to spread awareness about the issues of hunger and food security. Students from Mrs. Fairweather's art classes spent weeks creating beautiful artwork that was displayed and made available for teachers to purchase. In addition to the purchase, supporters received a delicious, hot bowl of soup. Local restaurants such as Blue spice, Irish Cottage Inn, Cafe Dolci, and Tony's Pizza & Pasta donated delicious soups. With the generous help and culinary skill of staff members including, Mrs. Fairweather, Mr. Colarusso, Mr. Daken-Stafanski, Mrs. Mele, Mrs. Gabadian, Mrs. Fink and Mrs. Potanka, the day was a day to remember for it's fun and importance.
Students, teachers and peers alike hope that the money raised for charity will not only make a change but project a message of unity. Wallkill Valley will be donating the accumulated profits to our school's Lone Ranger Fund, which helps our own students in need by providing holiday meals and gifts. Art teacher, Mrs. Fairweather commented, “I enjoy hosting the event and the staff really look forward to it. It’s a great opportunity and we are out for a greater cause. Not only for our own students but staff come together for this inspiring day.”
Empty Bowls started because of one school wanting to lend out a helping hand to the community while bringing about a change. Bloomfield Hills Lahser High School in Detroit, Michigan, although now closed, will forever leave its heavy mark on history. While creating a variety of bowls that were made for a luncheon, people gladly came in and enjoyed their bowls of soup. But it was because of a speech by Lisa Blackburn and the overwhelming need for change, that Empty Bowls truly came about.
Today we celebrate the event of giving more to people who have none. Empty bowls is celebrated all throughout the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Finland, England and Hong Kong,
Talk about an influence!
