As the dark evenings set in earlier and the final leaves begin to fall, so does the season. We look forward to the little things November has to offer while closing up loose ends and preparing for the winter months ahead. This time of year is full of events and activities to get people out and about. From Halloween to festivals to concerts, our area is full of many opportunities for entertainment! One such event know as "Murder Night" graces the somewhat local scene at The Meatlocker in Montclair, NJ. Halloween evening marked the night where many of the bands passed on the torch and share another incredible night with fans from all over the area. Montclair, known for its traditional decorative flair, did not disappoint with its over the top Halloween decorations. Being a part of this event and playing at a venue I've been to so many times, was life changing. I highly recommend attending this memorable, musical festival! On November 2, The Lunar Faire held its impressive "Holloweekend" at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. It was full of vendors and spooky costumes with great events and music. If you missed this year, be sure to put it on your calendar for next year. It's a wonderful time if you drag some friends along. Always sure to please, Heaven Hill Farms in Vernon, NJ offers their fall carnival with a corn maze and wonderful treats like apple cider donuts. If you prefer to stay indoors, pumpkin carving is always an option!
With Thanksgiving only 4 weeks away, many families have begun the traditional Sunday night football routine, while other families have already started observing different religious and secular holidays. From personal experience, a great Thanksgiving tradition for my family has always been going to my great grandmother's home in New Brunswick and spending the entire day eating and talking about life. I am sure all can agree that no matter how you celebrate, it's the perfect time of year to spend indoors with loved ones.
Although we have been spoiled with the warm weather, it is inevitable that the weather will turn colder and with that, styles will begin to emerge and defrost, such as sweaters and baggier layered clothing like jackets and hoodies; which are sure to keep you warm in the coming months. The thermostat in most classrooms is going to jump from class to class, so you might want to bundle up!
As autumn falls into winter, it is a great time of year to reflect on our traditions and music, because that is what life is about! I would like to remind everyone that our traditions help define us no matter how small and seemingly insignificant.
