RHS Student Highlight: Corps Commander Addy James

She planned and executed the travel plans and agenda on the overnight trip to the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. She also ensured proper timing to arrive on time to various destinations, planned meal schedules, and ensured 50 Cadets knew what was expected of them. She has also done an exceptional job loading over 400 data points in the Air Force’s Wing Computer program that charts Unit activities.

The community member business highlight is Army Sergeant Justin (J.J.) Johnson. He has performed uniform evaluations for the JROTC Cadets, provided multiple Physical Fitness routines with the Cadets, and provided Career Counseling in the United States Army.

LHS Business/Entrepreneurship

Mrs. Amy Hall from Wal-Mart

Mrs. Hall is a huge asset to our community and school. As an advisory board member for the Business/FBLA program, she provides us with invaluable insight into the world of work. As the People Lead at our local LaFayette Walmart, she is constantly helping to employ students in an effort to help provide valuable work experiences for our future young adults. As a former educator, she sees the need for students to learn appropriate employability skills for their future employment. In addition, she is available for insight and advice for our WBL program as Walmart consistently employs between 5-10 students each semester. Walmart is also consistently making donations to our school and we love the inpact these donations have for our student body.

LHS Business/Entrepreneurship Teacher: Mrs. Lori McWhorter

Mrs. McWhorter has been teaching for 4 years. She has her Associates Degree in Management and Marketing, her Bachelor's Degree in Technology Management, and her Master's in the Art of Teaching- Business Education. Here is what Mrs. McWhorter has to say about herself: "I have always wanted to be a teacher. However, I decided to work my way through college by working in a busy office. I quickly realized that I had a talent and love for business, entrepreneurship, marketing and management. I changed my major to Business but never lost that love and passion for teaching. I have held many roles in the business world but my strengths always seemed to be concentrated in training, teaching and mentoring. I decided to get my masters degree, but instead of the MBA I had always planned on, I surprised everyone by pursuing an MAT and entering the education field. I am immensely passionate about CTAE and the place that it has in our country and more specifically, our region. I am a believer in building relationships with students and finding what their passion is. My favorite phrase to use is "No one ever found their passion by filling out a worksheet." This philosophy keeps me brainstorming innovative and creative ideas to help students tap into their potential and explore their passions and talents and learn how to use those in a way that will enhance and add value to our community."

LHS Student Highlight: Mr. Anthony Henderson

Anthony is planning to attend a 4 year university or college. He is currently undecided on a major but is leaning toward marketing. He is a current LHS basketball player and is focused on attaining a scholarship to play basketball at the collegiate level. Anthony's strengths are his ability to lead others, public speaking and an ability to understand how people feel and think. He is always available to help other students and goes out of his way to make his fellow classmates feel seen and included.

LAUNCH Early Childhood Education

Mrs. Tracy Wimberly: Program Director for Early Childhood Care and Education Program at GNTC

My name is Tracy Wimberley, and I am the Program Director for the Early Childhood Care and Education program at GNTC. I grew up on Long Island, New York, in a very suburban neighborhood. I moved to Atlanta to attend college at Emory University where I obtained my BA degrees in both Psychology and Sociology. After graduating, I moved up to Walker County, Georgia, after college for my first "career" job; I was a juvenile probation/parole officer. I did that for seven years and then had several other social work positions all directed at children and adolescents. After twenty years of seeing only damaged children, I decided to go back to school to become an elementary school teacher. I attended Berry College and received my Master's degree in early childhood education and also my initial teaching certification. I did my student teaching at Trion Elementary in a second grade classroom. I next taught third grade at Cherokee Ridge Elementary for a few years until I fell in love with teaching at the college level after adjuncting for a couple semesters. I have taught at GNTC for over twelve years now, and it is the best job ever!!! I live on a small farm with two dogs, five cats, three horses, and a raccoon family. I enjoy painting with watercolors, listening to all kinds of music, and being outdoors.
