For this standard, the context you choose must be related to Level 2 Physics concepts. Contexts that you can choose from, but are not limited to, are as follows:
Brushless DC motors vs. induction motors and their applications (or focus on one of the two)
How cars keep us safe (crumple zones, airbags, headrests etc)
Sports skills/techniques/analysis (basketball, netball, football, rugby, volleyball etc)
Acoustic design of auditoriums (sound interference)
Radioactivity in medicine (atomic and nuclear physics)
Skiing (biomechanics and/or projectiles of ski jumping, or other)
Use of echolocation by sea mammals (ultrasound)
Sailing/rowing (forces and vectors)
Optical fibres in communications
Assessment: this will be in the form of a written report (approx. 3-4 pages long) using one of the available Google platforms. NOTE submissions in Word, PDF or other formats will not be accepted. ALL submissions are via TurnItIn.
This internal requires independent study and commitment. Using the resources provided in conjunction with your SciPad (Internals) workbook, you should study and understand the concepts relating to Atomic and Nuclear Physics.
Assessment: this will be in the form of a short-version exam paper (40 minutes), which will be sat in school under supervised conditions.
Past Exam Papers and Assessment Schedules
NOTE: these papers are ex-NCEA external exams and DO NOT contain questions on nuclear energy. You should use your internals Workbook for practice questions on this topic.
