It's not easy being a parent. You are the ones who notice what is happening in your young persons life and you are their biggest support network right now. We want to empower and support you too in this time so if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact one of the team.
There are a number of services available outside of Waitara High School for your young person if you have concerns about their emotional or mental health. They can be accessed through either your G.P. or Waitara High School’s counsellor (Andrew French) email: afr@waitarahs.school.nz

Taranaki Primary Connections (T.P.C.): Free
Taiohi Ora (Tui Ora): Free
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS): Free
Private Counsellor or Psychologist: Fees apply

If your young person has disclosed suicidality, or you have concerns for their safety, please phone your GP during work hours or the Crisis Team (out of work hours): 06 753 6139 or 0274254319. If you would prefer to talk to the School Counsellor first please contact Janet.
Being a parent or caregiver of teenagers is not an easy role at the best of times. Challenging and stressful times, such as Covid-19 can add to them. If you need support or counselling for yourself, or another adult member of your whanau, there are a number of services available:

Tui Ora: Free via their website https://www.tuiora.co.nz/ They also offer addiction services
If your employer has a contract with EAP you can access their service. Contact: 0800 327 669. The service is confidential and your employer does not get told your name
There are links to telephone helplines, Tui Ora (Facebook and Instagram) and apps you can download, on other parts of the Student Support WHS online portal
