Waikouaiti School is a semi rural school situated in the township of Waikouaiti approximately 40 kilometres north of Dunedin on State Highway One.
The local population is predominantly of European descent. The main sources of employment are farming, Macraes Gold mine, fishing, Mainland Poultry, local businesses and commuters to Dunedin. Waikouaiti is a service town with excellent recreational facilities for a town of its size. There is ready access to a Playcentre, Daycare, East Otago High School, University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic.
The school has a positive relationship with the community who have expectations of a well balanced education.
