About Us
Waikouaiti School is a semi-rural school situated in the township of Waikouaiti approximately 40 kilometres north of Dunedin on State Highway One. We currently have approximately 100 pupils. The school is well resourced and staffed by passionate educators. Our expansive grounds have numerous play areas, school gardens and all weather playing surfaces. Ultra Fast Broadband through our wireless network gives students access to digtial learning opportunities.
The main sources of employment in the community are farming, Macraes gold mine, fishing, Mainland Poultry, local businesses and Dunedin businesses. Waikouaiti is a service town with excellent recreational facilities for a town of its size. There is an excellent pre-school, playcentre, community centre all within the township. Within a 30 minute drive is East Otago High School, the University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic, as well as, Forsyth Barr stadium.
The school has a supportive community and a board who have expectations of a well balanced education. Our wonderful Friends of the School (FOTs) organise various fundraising events which support a variety of school projects.
Our annual Yr6 camp involves a trip to the stunning McKenzie District and includes visits to the Tekapo Hot Pools, Dark Sky Project and Mt Cook National Park.
