PPT (Level 2 Paint, Print + Textile Arts)
Length of Course: Full year
Recommendations: Year 11 ART or SPD, or with special permission from the Faculty leader
Course Content:
Paint, Print and Textile Arts (PPT) is a specialist area of Visual Arts that students can select in Year 12 - 13. It encourages students to extend their ideas and practice using established artists to guide technical and conceptual development.
Students explore the diverse fields of painting, printmaking and textile arts through drawing and apply this knowledge to develop a related series of works.
Printmaking techniques may include; screen printing, relief printing and drypoint etching
Textile Arts techniques may include; quilting, embroidery and weaving
By the end of the year students will produce a portfolio of work that forms a systematic body of work, showcasing their understanding of relevant art making conventions, concepts and personal artistic vision. Selected works will be exhibited in dedicated gallery spaces to provide the opportunity for students to share their works with the wider community.

Methods of Assessment:
Coursework for PPT2 includes a mix of internal and external Achievement Standards. All standards require the development of a specific visual portfolio. The external standard requires a body of work presented as a two panel folio board which is sent away for examination at the end of the year. There are no written examinations for this course.
Note: standards may differ depending on staffing, access to resources and student interest.

DAT2 (Level 2 Digital Art)
Length of Course: Full year
Recommendations: Level 1 ART or SPD, or with special permission from the Faculty leader
Course Content:
Digital Art (DAT) is a specialist area of Visual Arts that students can select in Year 12 - 13. It encourages students to extend their ideas and practice using established artists to guide technical and conceptual development. Students explore the diverse fields of Digital Art through drawing and apply this knowledge to develop a related series of works.
The domains of Digital Art include:
Photography
Graphic Design
Digital Illustration
Moving Image
Animation and Motion Graphics
By the end of the year students will produce a portfolio thats form a systematic body of work, showcasing their understanding of art making conventions, concepts and personal artistic vision. PRD2 (Level 2 Product Design)
Length of Course: Full year
Recommendations: Level 1 PRD with a minimum of 12 credits, or permission from the Head of Faculty
Course Content:
Product Design(THM) extends the creative, critical, and practical skills developed in junior courses into projects that are connected with our community.
Students learn how to communicate with real clients, manage time and resources including budgets, meet client set deadlines, comply with industry standard health and safety practices, and build awesome and technically challenging outcomes.
Domains that may be covered in PRD2 include:
Woodworking
Silversmithing
Engineering
Carpentry
Construction Industry Standards
3D fabrication using resistant materials
Textile and Fashion Design
We want our learners to develop skill, confidence, independence, and safe practices to ensure they will be an asset to any workplace or institute they may join in the future.
Subjects complementary to PRD include:
Spatial Design(SPD)
Mathematics with Calculus (MAC)
In this course, students will work through a mix of Achievement and Unit Standards. The Unit Standards are practical and theoretical BCITO pre-trade standards. The exact mix of standards will depend on the needs of the students who select the course.
Methods of Assessment:
Coursework for THM is assessed using written assignments, portfolios and practical outcomes. There are no written examinations for this course.

FOO2 (Level 2 Food Design)
Length of Course: Full year
Recommendations: Level 1 FOO with a minimum of 12 credits, or permission from the Head of Faculty
Course Content:
Food Design (FOO) extends the creative, critical and practical skills developed in junior FOO into projects aligned with current industry practices. There is a strong focus on connecting with local cafes and restaurants including guest chef demonstrations.
Students learn safe food handling and preparation practices, industry standard culinary techniques, food presentation skills and participate in commercial catering opportunities. There is provision in Year 13 for barista training. We want our learners to foster an appreciation for manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga through a focus on sustainable practices, eating locally and in season and developing unique flavours.

SPD2 (Level 2 Spatial Design)
Length of Course: Full year
Recommendations: Level 1 SPD with a minimum of 14 credits, or permission from the Faculty leader
Course Content:
Spatial Design (SPD) is a multidisciplinary course that introduces students to various aspects of the Technology curriculum as they progress from Year 10 - 13. This includes skills and knowledge from the fields of architecture, landscape and spatial design, sculpture, graphic design and entertainment design. Students learn how to communicate their ideas visually through a range of techniques which include; freehand sketching, rendering, CAD/CAM presentations and models, digital and physical modelling and exhibition design.
Student projects and key foci change each year taking into account previous student experiences and access to specialist equipment.
In Year 12 Students are required to investigate and solve design problems in greater depth, create detailed solutions and learn new drawing and presentation techniques. By Year 13 students select their own design projects to work through. Students are encouraged to extend their design practice by learning about design history and tapping into their own creative heritage.
We want our learners to develop a range of skills and knowledge to foster a culture where students can see how they can use design, fabrication and presentation to intervene in the world around them.
