Chaperones
After-school enrichment programs are offered to families through the Wade King PTO, and because they're offered after school hours, Bellingham School District insurance does not cover them. The Wade King PTO's insurance states that programs held at the school need to have a PTO member chaperone in order for insurance to take affect. Therefore, many of our programs need a PTO chaperone and are offering significant program fee discounts. To become a PTO chaperone, you must have an up-to-date volunteer application.

In this hands-on program, students learn the fundamentals of game design and computer science by creating their own playable video games. Using beginner-friendly tools, participants design characters, program game mechanics, and build levels from scratch, developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and storytelling skills.

Wade King Honor Choir

The Wade King Honor Choir is an after-school enrichment opportunity for grades 3rd to 5th. Students in Honor Choir will travel if and when outside opportunities become available. Due to the extra time and expense that traveling offers this may create challenges for families. Please look at your schedule for the duration of the choir dates to see if there are any time conflicts that arise.
The Honor Choir will be performing the National Anthem at the soccer game at Lumen Field on 10/17. See the Wade King Choir page for more details.

TikTok Dance explores popular dances as seen on TikTok! Kids will learn fun choreography and basic filming skills. Videos are never posted, only shared with families. Classes will include follow-me warm ups, technique, games, and choreography. Get ready to move and groove in this highly active class!

Girls on the Run with the YMCA
Girls on the Run with the YMCA
Meeting in small teams after school, trained volunteer coaches inspire girls to build confidence and other important life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and physical activity.
Girls on the Run reaches girls at a critical stage, strengthening their confidence at a time when society begins to tell them they can?t. Underscoring the important connection between physical and emotional health, our program addresses the whole girl when she needs it the most.
After 9 weeks of team-building, goal setting, and a lot of FUN, teams from all over Whatcom County come together to challenge themselves in a 5K event and celebration!

Wade King Chess Club

Wade King Chess Club offers an opportunity for students to connect with other students, build skills and strategies to improve their chess playing, and learn to build positive relationships. This is a fun and engaging after school enrichment opportunity that helps improve learning, thinking, analytical power, and decision-making ability.
The art of learning chess as a child also shows that it can increase cognitive brain function such as creative thinking, strategic planning, memorization, and problem solving. This club has the advantage of having advanced chess instructors to help teach students invaluable chess skills!
We break students into two groups based on skill (not age): beginner and intermediate in an effort to meet their skill level and engage their thinking and effort appropriately. Student participate in an organized tournament structure with one game each week against a pre-arranged opponent to practice their tournament-level skills.

Paper Crane Yoga reminds students that a flexible mind is just as important as a flexible body. Classes blend movement, intention-setting, crafts, and plenty of FUN! Kids will learn yoga basics, practice mindful breathing, and build meaningful connections through our seasonal sessions. Join us!

This is an exciting opportunity for students to learn self-defense moves in a safe and fun environment! More than that, this class teaches ki kids be martial artists everywhere they go: showing courtesy and respect to others, increasing focus and confidence, and developing self-discipline and self-control—all while learning practical karate moves!

Mythmakers with Majestic Adventures

A Live-Action Role Play and Experiential Education camp, Mythmakers combines foam boffer play with imaginative storytelling, to give participants the chance to become adventurers and help build and maintain a persistent, magical world. Combines active play with challenges designed to encourage sharp minds and empathetic hearts, with a focus on building community and empowerment through action.

Price: Monthly membership is $200 plus $50 for transportation. The membership includes your child's weekly coding, STEM or robotics class as well as Saturday drop-in and Wednesday Club Nights. Membership is month-to-month with a thirty-day notice of cancellation.
Pick up: Transportation fee includes van transportation from Wade King at 2:30 p.m., snack and care until classes begin at 3:30 p.m., and transportation back to Wade King.

Scholarships/Financial Assistance
The Wade King PTO wants to ensure that Wade King parents and guardians feel supported so their children can attend an after-school program each year. We aim to help all families who might need financial assistance. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis as funds are available across all programs. Some scholarships are available through the class provider's registration link. Scholarships of more than 50% of the class fee are eligible only to students who meet the criteria for the school district free or reduced lunch program. Scholarships of less than 50% of the class fee are available through the class provider's registration site. Please contact Vicki at enrichment@wadekingpto.org if you need additional scholarship assistance beyond what the class providers offer.
