The

Jaguar Journal

The Jaguar Journal would like to send a shout-out to Dani Jackman!

Dani Jackman, University Prep softball — Dani hit a home run in each of the three games for the Jaguars last week. On April 12, Dani smacked her 16th of the season and the 60th of her varsity career. That home run tied the CIF-Southern Section record. She ended going 5-for-5 with two doubles, seven RBIs and two runs. In three games last week, Dani reached base in all 13 plate appearances. Dani went 2-for-2 on April 9 in a 7-6 victory over AAE, and then 2-for-2 with two RBI and four runs in a 16-0 victory over Big Bear the following day (VV Daily Press).

As of 4/17:

Dani has hit 63 career home runs which is the California HS record. She has driven in 277 runs in her career which is also a state record. She has 55 career doubles which is 2nd all time in CIF SS play.....FYI 56 is the top mark and that record is held by a UP graduate, Justice Borden c/o 2016. For the season she is hitting 0.782, with 76 RBI, 16 doubles, 2 triples and 19 home runs. She has been First Team All American the past two seasons, and will probably do it again this year (Zimmerman).

University Prep would like to congratulate our very own Kayla Garcia for her acceptance into the Youth Journalism Initiative!

Kayla was aware that this was a competitive opportunity, and felt nervous about potentially meeting rejection. About this feeling, Kayla said, "Although I felt this way, I knew that if I didn't, I would regret it. I applied as a way to prove that putting myself out there was always going to be better than shying away from opportunity."

From June 16th - 24th, Kayla will have the opportunity to learn how to become a careful consumer and a quality producer of news. "I plan on using this experience to further my academic career by utilizing the tools and advice they give me and bringing them back to UP," she said. "I hope that future colleges acknowledge this experience, as well, and see that I am a committed student who has taken a leap into the "real" world."

We are so excited for her to make this incredible step in her journalistic journey. Great job Kayla!
