Background: The following photographs were taken from Pakistan's Swat District during the time the Taliban occupied regions in Afghanistan. The Taliban presence in Afghanistan can be traced back to the 1970s, but it wasn't until the late 90s and early 00s that the war in Afghanistan began to impact Pakistan, its neighboring country. As the war raged on, fueled ultimately but 9/11 attack on the US, thousands of refugees poured into Pakistan and other surrounding nations, fleeing war zones that were destroying Afghanistan, killing innocent women and children, and leaving the country in ruin. Night Falls
