Assigned Quarter Rotations

Art

Let your creative juices flow in this course as you create art from a variety of materials.  In this class you will express yourself by making art that is meaningful to you while generating curiosity, creativity, and satisfaction. You will become aware of artistic perceptions, knowledge, and try to include personal nuances.  Using multiple modes of artistic processes, including sketching, observational drawing with charcoal/oil pastels, watercolor painting/sketching outdoors in the GMMS Sensory Garden and clay, you will broaden your art experiences. You will learn about contemporary artists, ways of communication, and try to enter into National Junior Art Honor Society Art Shows and NJ state-level poster contests.

Engineering Design

Have you ever tried to bring your awesome ideas to life? This hands-on project-based design course is for you.  Students will explore the basics of engineering in order to learn how to build their own creations.  As we improve our use of measurement and dimension and communicate ideas using 3D sketching, we will build, test, and modify various designs for form and function.  We create projects like the Air Skimmer for you to build and analyze through launching and design and build Tiny Home models detailing innovative spaces.

Financial Literacy-7

If you have ever been lucky enough to receive money as a gift, or get an allowance, you know how great it is to spend your own money on what you want. But did you know that you may be missing out on great ways to make your money work for you to increase your wealth? In this class we will explore various aspects of money management, from how to make the best choices when food shopping to determining how to split the bill when dining out with friends. Each choice we make has both a financial and personal consequence - both good and bad. Should we work further away for more money, or closer to home to spend time with family? Should we get a fancy new stove, or one that works for what we need it for, and save for a vacation?  Through projects and interactive simulations, this class will help you see how these challenging choices can be made.

Spanish

Our knowledge of the Spanish language will continue to grow during this course. Students will expand upon their learning in Spanish 6. While working on projects that they are familiar with, students will delve deeper into the Spanish language and learn more complex vocabulary and grammar.  Students will also speak Spanish in class daily as they become more fluent in the language.  The instructor will add a layer of depth to the content so that the language is enriched and more complex. In this course there is more focus on plural verbs and describing groups of people. There is also a more comprehensive reference library for all students in Schoology. In this class students will be using simple, everyday Spanish in the classroom to earn class participation points daily.
