4-H is a voluntary, informal educational program for youth who are ages 5 to 18 years old. Best of all 4-H memberships are FREE! 4-H is not just for children who live on a farm, there is something for everyone! The mission of 4-H is to assist youth, and adults working with those youth to gain additional knowledge, life skills, and attitudes that will further their development as self-directing, contributing, and productive members of society.
In Warren County most 4-Hers belong to a community club where they elect officers, learn to conduct meetings, choose a 4-H project to complete, plan programs and participate in community service and other activities. A network of adult volunteers work with the 4-H Clubs. Warren County currently offers 8 clubs including community clubs, Cloverbud clubs and in-school clubs. See the Warren County 4-H Club Brochure for a complete listing. We also offer a variety of in-school programs and workshops that are open to all youth. Warren County 4-H also has a 4-H Junior Camp for one week each summer at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center in Front Royal, as well as day camps and workshops throughout the summer. Each spring, we have our county contests which include presentations, public speaking, share-the-fun, table-setting, photography, science fair, and Cloverbud demonstrations. In the summer we keep busy with our camps but also have the Warren County 4-H and FFA Show and Sale at the County Fair. Our youth have multiple opportunities throughout the year to earn awards, receive recognition, attend district and state competitions and conferences, and so much more!
The Virginia 4-H program is conducted by Virginia Cooperative Extension, supported by Virginia Tech and Virginia State Universities. County and State programs are directed by Extension staff who train and support volunteers to work with 4-H members. 4-H program funding comes solely from donations, sponsorships, and program fees; 4-H clubs earn money through fundraisers and donations. Some 4-H activities require fees, but there is no charge to join 4-H.
