TFWB Community of Practice Sessions

Practical Strategies for Reducing Anxiety & Challenging Behavior in Students

This in-person session was based on Jessica Minahan's second book, The Behavior Code Companion, which goes even deeper with many more practical and easy to implement strategies, tools, and interventions for supporting students with anxiety related or oppositional behaviors. Her first book, The Behavior Code walks you through the FAIR Behavior Intervention Plan for students with the most challenging behaviors. FAIR focuses on building skills rather than rewards and consequences and promotes preventative and proactive approaches rather than reactive.

VISIT Jessica Minahan's website to purchase her books and/or to find out more about her practical strategies for reducing anxiety and challenging behaviors in students, including blog posts, podcasts, articles, and more!! Find even more on her School Resources site.

Are breaks in the schedule a common accommodation for your students with IEPs? Are they working? Are the adults in the building using breaks for themselves effectively?

Join us to discuss how the use of breaks can be more strategic and effective based on the work of Jessica Minahan, co-author of The Behavior Code: A Practical Guide to Understanding and Teaching the Most Challenging Students and author of The Behavior Code Companion: Strategies, Tools, and Interventions for Supporting Students with Anxiety-Related or Oppositional Behaviors. Revisit the use of breaks with a neuroscientific lens that is anxiety and trauma-informed, empowering students as well as adults as they learn skills to cope.

We enjoyed spending time and space together during your first TFWB session where you decided that monthly 30 minute targeted share sessions and asynchronous PD work best for your schedules this year. We missed those who couldn't be with us so made sure to capture our conversation on this agenda and in the session recording. We encourage you to click on the agenda and add yourself to the conversation so that we can continue providing targeted professional development that meets your needs.
