Archery: Participants will learn the safe use and handling of bows and arrows. The certified instructor will conduct training and practice in proper methods of stance, firing, aiming, and care of the archery equipment. Instruction will be given in range procedures while firing at foam targets. *Closed-toe shoes required.
STEM/Aerospace: Participants will learn about the different aspects of flight such as lift and velocity by building their own water rockets, participating in a drone obstacle course, and create their own engine propelled rockets ready for a spectacular launch! You can also expect many more experiments and builds that relate to the field of aerospace, mechanical engineering and some civil engineering for those who wish to stay on planet earth!
Riflery: Participants will be introduced to the safe use and handling of air rifle pellet guns. Also, participants will be afforded the opportunity to engage in riflery techniques utilizing .22 rifles. The certified instructor will conduct training in the safe methods of loading, aiming, and firing of guns at paper targets. *Closed-toe shoes required.
Gardening: Participants will compare soil samples to evaluate the quality of soil for gardening, identify organisms living in the different components of soil, learn about the different vegetable families, dissect seeds, create seed bombs, learn about the biology of different vegetable plants, and after a gardening we will make fresh salsa!
Performing Arts: Participants will be introduced to performance techniques including costuming, make-up, and use of props, utilizing their own skills and talents. Clowning, mime, puppetry, and plays will be demonstrated to help develop individual creativity, self-confidence and self-awareness as well as positive group interaction. Youth will learn how to apply their talents and skills by performing before others.
Pond Ecology/Fishing: Participants in this class will learn the basics of marine life which include seining, marine habitats, water quality, swamp life, and fishing Campers may catch a variety of species, including Small Mouth Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Catfish, Striped Bass, Perch, Blue Gill, and more.
Outdoor Living Skills: Campers will go hands-on and wild in exploring how to survive the 4-H Center’s wilderness! Learn how to build campfires & shelters, knots, orienteering, animal tracking, and so much more! *Closed-toe shoes required.
Intro to Karate: Participants will learn basic moves and stances. These are the building blocks of everything they would do to achieve a black belt. Participants will also be introduced to concepts like kata (patterns of movement), choku-zuki (straight punch forward), and mae geri (front kick).
Arts and Crafts: Come and get your creative juices flowing. Explore a number of new and exciting crafters to take home with you this summer.
Beginners Swimming: In this class campers will gain confidence and learn to feel comfortable in the water. Campers will first learn how to float and enjoy the water and then gradually begin to develop basic swimming skills and learn their first strokes. This class is full of water games and fun activities focused on developing and advancing the skill level of all beginner swimmers!
Advanced Swimming: The goal of this class is to build upon campers basic swimming skills by providing additional guided practice. To enter this level students must be able to pass the advanced swim test. In this class students will learn to coordinate the front and back crawl strokes, begin orientation to deep water, refine key strokes, and be introduced to the butterfly stroke, open turns and diving. And don’t forget the games! *Advanced swim test required.
Nature/Forestry Venture out into woods for an exciting and hands on experience. Campers will have the opportunity to collect specimens from the woods of Airfield, learn about and touch native reptiles, and participate in forestry related science experiments while learning about the natural wonders of the world!
Low Ropes/Challenge Course: Participants will be afforded the opportunity to participate in activities that will promote group interaction and positive individual self-worth in a structured noncompetitive environment. The elements include various trust and warm-up activities, combined with rope, cable, and wooden obstacles that can be physically and emotionally challenging. *Closed-toe shoes required.
Paddle Sports: Participants will be introduced to canoeing and kayaking terminology, equipment, life preservers, carrying and launching canoes and kayaks, weight distribution, paddling locations, a variety of strokes, and will gain canoeing experience on the 105-acre Airfield Lake. Participants will capsize and rescue an overturned canoe. SAFETY will be stressed and always maintained. *Advanced swim test and closed-toe shoes required.
Baking: Participants will learn the fundamentals of elementary baking methods to prepare delicious baked goods. Participants will use a conventional oven, make icing and cookie dough. Participants will learn valuable 4-H life skills which also result in delicious treats!

Waterways and Wildlife (Nature Canoe Tour): Are you an outdoor enthusiast looking to expand your paddling skills and explore the natural world around Airfield Pond? In this class you’ll wander the wilderness by water and go on a nautical, natural scavenger hunt putting stamps in your aquatic passport. This class takes you on a journey from the canoe launch around the pond hunting everything from trees, beaver mounds, and birds. You’ll learn about the wild wonder of the Airfield critters and fun facts about their life history. If you love the water on a hot summer day, this is absolutely the class for you!
Counselor in Training (CIT) Prep: If you're passionate about camp life and eager to become a future counselor, our Counselors in Training (CIT) Prep is the perfect next step! This program is all about preparing you to lead with confidence, creativity, and responsibility, all while having fun and making lasting memories. You'll dive into essential counselor skills like group management, conflict resolution, communication, and creating engaging activities. You'll shadow experienced counselors, assist with younger campers, and even have the chance to plan and lead your own activities! Whether you're organizing a campfire, leading a team-building game, or helping campers with their daily routines, you'll gain hands-on experience that will set you up for success.
