Demographic information for Noel C. Taylor Learning Academy is rapidly changing and evolving with the new initiative to transition students back to their home school within three months of their arrival. In the past, there have been upwards of 80 students enrolled in the program. In the academic school year 2020-2021 there were 54 students.
There are different domains of students - those who incur referral to Noel C. Taylor due to behavioral issues in the classroom and who are the primary target for transitioning back to their home school, and those who have extenuating circumstances and thus stay at Noel C. Taylor long term in the accelerated GED program. For the purposes of this comprehensive school counseling program and in honoring the initiative of the administration to see students successfully transition back to their home school, the material herein is targeted toward those students who see only short term attendance at Noel C. Taylor. The programmatic material, while designed for brief attendance, will benefit those students who attend long term as well.
The available demographic data of the 2020-2021 academic school year is as follows:
Female - 47%;
Male - 53%;
Hispanic - 2%;
Black - 61%;
White - 27%;
Two or More - 10%;
Middle School - 16%;
High School - 84%
Per discussions with the school counselor, the largest population of students referred to Noel C. Taylor is 9th graders.

Ordinarily, a school's improvement plan is useful in aligning preexisting goals with that of the comprehensive school counseling program. As Noel C. Taylor Learning Academy is an alternative program and not a school, their program's improvement plan is a work in progress.
Per discussions with their school counselor, the following three initiatives have been identified as goals for this upcoming academic school year, 2021-2022:
Increase motivation among students.
Increase positive school experience.
Engage stakeholders in the community to connect with the students.

To this point, the school counseling coordinator has been the point of contact for data mostly pertaining to demographic information of students who were enrolled in the 2020-2021 academic school year.
With the new initiative to have students enrolled at Noel C. Taylor for no more than three months, data trends become a little bit more difficult to track.
All three domains of achievement, attendance, and discipline are salient for the population of students at Noel C. Taylor as many of them were referred to the program for issues of misbehavior in the classroom.
