Virtual reality enhanced data exploration will be demonstrated using the popular ParaView scientific visualization tool. ParaView, a well-established tool in the visualization community, is equipped with many rendering techniques, selection controls, and data format readers. Many experts already rely on ParaView’s desktop interface to accomplish a variety of data analysis tasks. ParaView's interface to virtual reality systems has recently expanded both for consumer-facing VR systems, as well as larger CAVE-style installations (as well as mid-range systems).
The primary focus of this demonstration is on the immersive visualization features of ParaView's latest release. We will demonstrate ParaView for virtual/extended reality, the basic immersive user interface, the shared-user collaborative interface, as well as the more advanced opportunities afforded by the Python connection to the VR capabilities – which includes voice control using current LLM techniques. This demonstration demonstrates how the ParaView scientific visualization tool can be used with CAVE-style VR displays (CAVE Interaction Plugin) along with HMD (XR Interface Plugin) systems.
The demonstration will be hosted by Dr. Nicholas Polys in 3050 Torgersen Hall.
ARC’s Visionarium Lab provides an array of visualization resources, including the ImmersaDeck, an immersive three-dimensional visualization room, with head and device tracking. The ImmersaDeck is a 14.7-foot by 14.7-foot by 9.2-foot three-dimensional visualization environment, with 47.9 million pixels and 700 ft2 of display surface. It is a world-class immersive visualization facility that has 15,000 lumens per projector (6) and Dual-Eyepoint Projection for two stereo views. The facility is unique in that it has 3 walls, a floor, and a partial ceiling. The Visionarium Lab is available to faculty, graduates, and undergraduates to work with their data and visualization solutions in a cutting-edge hardware and software environment including interactive 3D graphics locally, as well as remote High-Performance Visualization (HPV) with the ARC HPC clusters over the dedicated 10 Gig VT-RNET. From the Web to Headsets and CAVEs, the Visionarium Lab provides expertise and consulting in creating effective analytic, design, and collaborative environments.
