Students and staff can sign up for events on Hokie Wellness’s website until Wednesday, April 22, 2020.
Body Matters week is an initiative to expose the community to the many physical and mental health resources Virginia Tech offers. All events are free and during this time students and staff have access to health care professionals to get their questions answered. On Monday, a fitness expo will be held at McComas Hall. On Tuesday, in the Hahn Gardens there will be yoga at lunchtime. On Wednesday, information booths will be held at McComas Hall. A group walk will be conducted on Thursday starting from the North End Center. The week will conclude on Friday with a closing party on the Drillfield.
In the past, Hokie Wellness placed emphasis on the physical health aspect; this year they are emphasizing the importance of mental health. David Andrews, Associate Director for Hokie Wellness said, “Although the Body Matters week used to be solely focused on physical health, it is so important to also discuss the role of mental health. Richard Simmons has personally experienced the impact of mental health on his physical health so he’s a great person to visit us during the week. I think our student Hokies will have fun but also learn a lot during Body Matters this year.” In addition to the workout, the final event will also have free Jamba Juice smoothies. Everyone is encouraged to come dressed in their grooviest workout outfit to celebrate Body Matters week. year and has educational seminars every week for students to come and learn more about their health. Hokie Wellness is always looking for ways to improve and after Body Matters week a follow-up survey will be sent out.
