My candidacy will give the voters an opportunity to elect a dedicated person who has worked hard to educate herself, who has gained practical experience, and who has the desire to provide the best possible service and efficiencies to the public in a transparent, legal, and ethical manner.

Qualified, Dedicated, Experienced

Woodbury County Auditor Michelle Skaff's 29-year career in public service includes serving as a 911 operator at two agencies, working as the director of a 16-county law enforcement intelligence network in northwest Iowa, serving as Woodbury County Emergency Management Coordinator, and working as Deputy Auditor in charge of finance. Her current auditor responsibilities include administering the Finance, Elections, and Recorders office. She also prepares the tax roll, clerks the Board of Supervisors meetings, and certifies authorities’ budgets. In addition to her regular duties Michelle has served as the Interim Budget/Finance Director for Woodbury County.

Born and raised in Sioux City, Michelle graduated from West High School and went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University in Psychology and English. She then earned a Master of Science in Administrative Studies degree followed by a Ph.D. in Political Science, both from the University of South Dakota. She lives in Sioux City with her husband, Mark, and enjoys gardening and spending time with the grandkids.

I believe that the integrity of elections is of extreme importance. To ensure the integrity of elections, I am proficient in the elections laws and ensure that the laws are strictly followed. I provide the staff and elections officials with training and resources that will allow them to be confident and accurate. I make sure that the elections are carried out in a fair and impartial way and all individuals are treated with respect and professionalism. I also will make sure that the elections process is transparent, and I will welcome anyone to discuss concerns about how the integrity of elections, and the public’s perception of the election process can be improved.

I serve the needs of the citizens of Woodbury County. I listen to and address any public concerns regarding the office, and I will always be honest and transparent. I will make sure that any concerns of the auditor finance, elections, and recorder staff are welcomed and heard. I will provide the office staff with adequate training, resources, and staffing to do their jobs efficiently and accurately.

I am uniquely qualified to serve you based on my formal education and practical experience. I provide the best possible service to all residents of Woodbury County.
