Integrated Psychotherapy Approach
According to Norcross and Goldfried (2019) in their "Handbook of Psychotherapy Integration, 3rd edition", research on psychotherapy outcome determined that psychotherapy works. However, no therapy model is above another in terms of results and no one therapy model can deal with a client issue holistically. Research has also shown that therapists' views of client outcomes are optimistic compared to clients' views. Norcross and Goldfried (2019) assert that psychotherapy integration helps increase client outcomes and reduce drop-out.
Shalom Peace Counselling uses an integrative model, Feedback Informed Therapy, and Transtheoretical Therapy described below. Clients gain from the counsellor’s training in different therapy models, continuous professional development, and supervision.
Feedback Informed Therapy rests on obtaining feedback from the client on their progress towards the therapy's goals through an Outcome Rating Scale (ORS) and their feedback on the therapy session using a Session Rating Scale (SRS). Feedback is collected, discussed, and followed up with the client. They help stir the therapy forward by, for example, aligning modality or even assisting a client in finding a more suitable counsellor if no progress is registered after a number of sessions.
The Transtheoretical Model of therapy highlights that clients come to therapy from different stages of readiness to change. Recognising their stages of change is a prerequisite to designing the best solutions to help them move toward their goals.
