About Villa Rowing
Mission-
To build a sustainable rowing program offering the student-athletes at Villa Maria a competitive rowing environment in which they can learn commitment, teamwork, grit, and determination. It is our goal to provide a positive, supportive learning environment in which our athletes can strive for excellence.
Villa Maria rowing is in our 4th year of competition as a varsity program after two years in a club setting.
Practice
During the Fall and Spring seasons, on-water practices are held at the Whitemarsh Boat Club at Hines Rowing Center in Conshohocken, PA. Land training days and the optional winter workouts are held at Villa. Students must take the bus to Spring weekday practices unless there are extenuating circumstances that can be discussed with the coaching staff on a case by case basis. Transportation home from practice is not provided, as well as to weekend practices and most regattas.
Practice is held in all weather. Should there be foul weather and it is not conducive to going out on the water, there may be a change in practice location and will be communicated to the team through Remind. It is not always possible for coaches to make this decision until at the boathouse and land practices may be held in that situation.
During the Spring and Fall season, practices take place Tuesday through Friday after school, Saturdays, and Sundays that are not regatta days. There may be some Monday practices at the end of the Spring season due to regattas on a Saturday with the day off being Sunday and those will be announced to the athletes.
During the Winter season, practices are voluntary. They begin for in December and run through to the beginning of the Spring Season. Practices are held afterschool on weekdays with times T.B.D. by the coaching staff. There are no practices held over the winter break holiday.
Parents picking up athletes from practice are to remain in their cars in front of the HRC red building until the athletes released by the coaching staff. Parents are never permitted on the docks or in front of the boathouse unless invited and accompanied by a member of the coaching staff. Parents and athletes are never permitted to drive behind (river side) HRC.
