Students are admitted into British universities usually in September/October after they graduate from VJC, except for male NSF students who start their courses two years later.

Applications to undergraduate courses in all universities are made through a central agency, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). Applicants may apply up to 5 choices of universities/courses on one UCAS form. Only one UCAS form may be submitted for any one admission year.

All courses chosen at one university each use up one choice. Choosing more than one course at a university is not advised especially for LSE, and is not allowed for Oxford and Cambridge. (Additionally, students cannot choose both Oxford and Cambridge.)

All UCAS applications made in VJC will be processed via the Web-based apply system. You can track the progress on the same website. Applications are accepted in the UK from the start of September when you are in JC2. It is imperative that students intending to apply to the UK familiarise themselves with and strictly adhere to the timeline established by VJC to ensure that their applications are sent to the universities.

When printed out by the universites, the UCAS form consists of four pages:
1. Personal particulars and course choices
2. Education levels and results
3. Personal statement
4. School confidential report

The confidential school report will be written by the UK Higher Education tutors after we collate information from your civics tutor, subject tutors and CCA teacher-in-charge. To enable this process, you are required to request comments from your tutors on the VJC Portal. Please remember to indicate your CCA teachers and events you have participated in after you have entered the list of universities you will be applying to. Graduated students may also submit your requests for comments on Portal

Note: For male students serving National Service, you are also requested to submit your personal particulars and personal statement by these dates respectively in the year before the actual admission year.

Each university you apply to will reply to you in Jan - Mar the following year.
There are 3 possible outcomes :
(a) Application is rejected;
(b) Conditional offer, meaning that your A level results must meet certain specified requirements;
(c) Unconditional offer

Use Track function to access and check for offers or rejections, and reply to offers. When applicants have received decisions from ALL choices, students will be notified on when they have to reply by on Track to their offers.

If applicants fail to reply by given date, offers will be declined automatically.
Applicants can hold a maximum of two offers:

• Firm (if they meet the conditions they will be placed)

• Insurance (only comes into play if they are not placed with the Firm choice)

Any other offers must be declined. However, if your choice is to accept an unconditional offer, you cannot accept a back-up place. These regulations will be confirmed in the computer generated correspondence sent to you by UCAS.

If you withdraw from UCAS entirely, you must inform them using the forms they will send to you. If all your choices reject your application, you may apply to another university through the Clearing process in July, Aug or Sep. This matches students who have not obtained a place with courses/universities that still have vacancies.

1) Please pay for your UCAS form. This will indicate that you're serious in your application. The application will not be processed unless the UCAS form is paid for.
2) Payment does NOT mean submission to UCAS. They can still return the form to you to make changes after payment, before the final internal deadline.
3) For those applying for Cambridge (Medicine), do note that you should still abide by the earlier deadline i.e. Cambridge's deadlines (Category 1)

• Do note that the accepted norm is to apply for university the year before you enter it (e.g. if you're entering in 2027, you apply in 2026). 

• There are some universities that accept deferred entry (for a year) due to NS commitments. If you are applying to these universities and you want to apply a year earlier. Please write to us. It is only then that we will open the Higher Education Module on VJC Portal for you. We will consider your request on a case-by-case basis.

• You will not need to request for predicted grades as you would have your actual A-level grades by the time of your application.

• However, you are encouraged to to onto portal to request of tutor comments so that it can be used to craft your UCAS reference letter.

• Please take each round of application seriously. Do not apply for fun in the first year, thinking you can still apply again in the second year. This will waste your teachers' time and put the credibility of the college at risk, affecting your juniors' applications in the future.
