Being well-versed in one or more technological skills allows students a range of ways to communicate a need, engage in storytelling, develop an interface, create a solution to a problem, and so much more. in computer-aided design (CAD) to fabricate amazing products and prototypes.
Remember laser cutting/etching may only be done under the direct supervision of trained VIDA faculty.
You probably already have some amazing technical skills that you have developed during your time at VIDA or on your own.
Here are some examples of areas where you might have technical skills:
Sketch-noting
Digital Photography
Video Production
Audio Production
Coding/Programming (Arduino, RobotC, Python, C++, MIT APP Inventor, etc) UX or UI, and more.
AutoDesk Platform
Revit
GarageBand
Adobe PhotoShop
Google Sketch-up
TynkerCAD
Final Cut Pro
Vectr
As a designer, you should have some experience with digital fabrication.
There are several different forms of Digital Fabrication, however in middle school it is primarily limited to 3D printing and laser cutting/etching. (Laser cutting/etching may only be done under the direct supervision of trained VIDA faculty.
Many of our classes at VIDA include using 3D printers to bring physical form to students, original designs. In addition, you will have the opportunity to learn about laser cutting during design lab rotations!
Focus on 2 skills. For each skill:
Take images, screenshots, and/or videos that clearly show:
The work that you did
The final product
Write (or create a well-produced video) that includes information about the platform, how you used it, and what you produced.
Design something using computer-aided design (CAD) and fabricate it using either a 3D printer or laser cutting/etching.
As you design, pay attention to:
Functionality
Design Efficiency
Aesthetics
Originality/Creativity
Add the evidence of your work to your personal brand website. Evidence must include (but is not limited to):
Screenshots of or links to your work.
Images/videos of you completing your design or your work in progress.
Images of your final project.
Add all of your evidence and reflections to the "Technological Skills" page of your personal brand website.
