Designers need to develop communication skills to collaborate on designs, seek and receive feedback, and pitch their ideas.
Speaking
Ideas are organized in a way that helps the listener understand your ideas.
You remain in the 2nd circle,
You use and adapt the PVLEGSS based on your content and audience,
Listening
You listen with the purpose of understanding the experiences, opinions, and ideas of the speaker.
You know how to ask open-ended questions that will elicit stories from the speaker.
You formulate follow-up questions based on what the speaker says.
Writing
Your written ideas are organized in a way to help the reader understand your ideas.
You are careful with your choice of words and phrases, thinking about the emotional impact your words will have on the reader.
Visuals
Visual components of your presentation aid in the understanding of your purpose, ideas, and/or design.
You use appropriate tools to create neat, informational images.
You avoid unnecessary and distracting images,
Pitch
You emphasize the value of your ideas and designs.
You gear your presentations to your specific audience.
You are concise, using limited presentation time wisely.
You are ready to answer questions related to your product and pitch.
Provide examples of your communication skills.
Speaking:
Upload a video of yourself speaking to a group. This can be from any class (including Public Speaking). your COL, or any extracurricular activity.
Write a brief reflection about how this video represents your speaking skills.
Listening
You need to listen to someone for ideas and information.
This can be in a class, listening to another student present.
You could watch local or national politician either live or on TV.
You could find a video of someone giving a speech or a Ted Talk.
Write a brief summary of what you heard, and include links if appropriate,
Write two follow-up questions that you asked or would like to ask of the speaker.
Writing
Upload or provide a link to an original written work that is either persuasive or expository.
Write a brief reflection about why you chose this work and how it represents your writing skills.
Visuals
Upload an image of an original visual that you have created to help demonstrate an idea, solution, or design. This can be created by hand (if you have the artistic skills) or using some digital platform like Canva, Desmos, or CAD programs.
Write a brief explanation of how and why you created the visual.
Pitch
After you complete your final AP2EX project, upload you slide deck.
In you reflection, point out how you used your communication skills to demonstrate the value of your design in your pitch.
Add all of your evidence and reflections to the "Communication" page of your personal brand website.
