Intended audience for this presentation: 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade EL students, but can be used at the middle school level as well. It covers:
An overview of Reclassification process
Criteria required to Reclassify
What to do if I don't Reclassify
After students have exited an EL program, LEAs must monitor the academic progress of former EL students for at least four years to ensure that:
The students have not been prematurely exited;
Any academic deficit they incurred as a result of participation in the EL program have been remedied; and
The students are meaningfully participating in the standard instructional program comparable to their never-EL peers.
At VUSD, the ELD RT guides teachers through the process of accessing the ELLevation database & completing English Learner (EL) progress monitoring forms, and Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) monitoring forms TWO (2) times per school year. Teachers, timely return of these forms is expected to comply with Federal Program Monitoring (FPM) mandates & audits.
