In this task, we made an outline for a game based on the white terror period. Through this outline, I learned the various inhumane events that occurred during the White Terror. And when I need to make a background and design this game, it also made me think about how to represent the pain and fear of that time, how to respect historical truth, and how to let players experience the importance of freedom and human rights through gameplay.
I was responsible for creating the background. I also provided the main plot of this game.
This is the second time for me to make am outline, This time our class are making a game about aboriginal rights. Our group chose "Aboriginal bonus policy" for the topic. Through the research work and discussion, I learned about the real situation about the aboriginal people. It also helped me understand the inequalities faced by Indigenous peoples. But this matter still needs to be adjusted to be fair to everyone. I contributed the game flow and the players' experience.
In this assignment, we need to make 20 slides but maximum 2 words in each slide. In addition to learn about the detail about aboriginal bonus point policy, it also gave me a lot of brainstorming on how to present our theme through gaming. After the presentation, we can refer to the feedback from teachers, classmates and guests to make us more experienced in our next report. I was responsible for presenting slide 6 to 10. Everyone made five slides and presented their parts.
In this case, we are learning migrant rights. This game is about a migrant worker escaping from a dangerous homeland to find safety and a new life in another country. Players make choices to survive, build trust, and decide their future through different challenges and endings. I learned how difficult it is for migrant workers to escape from danger and start a new life. This project helped me understand their struggles and choices better. In this outline, I created the game flow , and also the background stor of this game.
This game is about White Terror, and our main objective is to let players know the important of human rights and fair laws. We initially made a game and it is basically identical to our first outline. But after the interview and the feedback that the interviewee gave me, I realized that our game has many problems. So I attempted to make a new version especially make the ending more logical. In this game, I created the game play and the ending. I also listed the sources that we used, I sketched the storyboard, I contributed to draw the scenes, and also organized the feedback.
In this task, we need to interview a person and ask him some questions to get feedback. In my interview, I let the player experience our game first, and asked him a few questions which is related to our game. After he finished the game, I asked him to give me some feedback. He said that our game is a bit short as an educational game. So after the interview, I discussed with my team members, and one person mentioned that his interviewee said basically the same thing. Therefore, we decided to make our game longer and more detailed by making five choice contexts and creating historical instructions.
Making this game really take our team's time and effort. We visited the human rights museum in order to construct the prototype and inspiration for this game. Second, we have interviewed many people and received some feedback from them for making improvements in our game. After that, when we finished the outline and started to make the game, we faced many dilemmas in the process, including different opinions from teammates, and we also encounter diffuculty when we were making the game. However, we eventually overcame all the challenges and completed our game.
If I get another chance to make this game again, I would improve the variety of scenes and consequences, and also make it more creative. In the current game, the choice slides are similar, and they all happen in the jail, so players might think the game is monotonous. Next time we want to show more daily-life moments and long-terms effect of each decision so that players can feel the impact of their choice directly. In addition, we can also make it more creative and interesting by designing a small map in the jail to let players explore and find fun things by themselves.
I would like to try different topics, but not always working on a game to promote social advocacy. I believe there are different ways for me to promote this issue, for example, making some clothes, making art, or making some videos are also good ways that I can try.
