This is the outline for the game that our team is making. It is about law and making decisions about prosecution, or setting free the people that are brought before you in court. It is a game that trains your thinking, and at the same time also shows you how justice, or injustice is formed. I helped my group mates, Jordan, Kevin, Nathan, and Reagan to make the design of the visuals of our game. I also helped give ideas to my group mates about what the experience would be like.
Pecha Kucha:
From this, I learned that aboriginal peoples used to be mistreated in very bad ways. I also learned that some descendants of the aboriginals bought land that used to belong to their ancestors back. Lastly, I learned that land is a very important aspect for the aboriginal people who live on it.
Class Canva Whiteboard:
In the third outline for our PBL project, our group made this outline for a game about the migrants and their rights. I learned that the Taiwanese law protects migrants that come here as construction workers, but not the ones that come here to take care of old people in other people's houses. Some Taiwanese people are protesting to get the government to care more about the migrant workers that go to work in other people's houses as houseworkers. In this outline, I contributed by typing a lot of the words, mostly the starting point, goal of the game, dilemmas, and connection to the driving question. I also put all of the pictures there.
Our Canva Whiteboard(Fish):
By doing this project, I learned that in the real world, many indigenous people actually face many hardships, such as loosing their land to the government, or business people and companies. I also learned about how some indigenous people fight hard to get their land back because it is really important to them and used to belong to their ancestors. More importantly, I learned how they got their land back by working hard to get a lot of money, and then using money to buy their land back from the people who is taken it from them. For this outline, I specifically contributed by giving ideas and playing my role. When my teammates shared it with me, I worked on it a lot.
Our Canva Whiteboard(Qualitative Analysis of Interviews):
From this project, I learned where needed to be improved in our game concept. I interviewed my mom, and asked her where I need to improve, she told me that she thinks that the talks with the NPCs can be longer and have more information. She also said that she thinks that we can give more of a background information to the player before they start the game, so that they will know what to do when they start the game. From this assignment, I personally learned that I need to get feedback from someone that doesn't know, or doesn't know much about my project to improve more. I also learned that when I am making a game, I should find a way to give the player instructions before they start playing.
For the final project, I tried to help by making a baseball mini game, I decided to make it about baseball is because I like baseball, and more importantly because a lot of Taiwanese indigenous children play baseball. I couldn't do the main game because we used scratch, and it was done on Nathan's computer. From all of the things that we did this semester, I learned that people in Taiwan like the indigenous people and migrants face issues and hardships, and often need to face racism issues as well. I also learned about the White Terror that happened in the bottom half of the 20th century, Taiwanese people were heavily mistreated until Chen Chung-Tung released evidence that the government was mistreating the Taiwanese people. Anyways, me and my teammates all tried our best to make mini games, although it was hard we still tried our best when we made them. If I had a chance to do this differently, I would have done our project on Unity. If we could work together on Unity, then I think that we could have accomplished way more for the game. Even though we couldn't finish much, I still think that this project was a success because we can learn from it to do better on our projects next time. I would keep the baseball game that I talked about above, if I have time I would try to finish it and share it to the public on Scratch, so that anyone can play my game. For the concept of the game, I would try to keep telling people who are interested about indigenous people what they face and how we can help them. I would also try to keep an eye out for any news about the indigenous people in Taiwan facing hardships, or being helped.
