Students enrolled in Orchestra must understand that they are making a commitment to practice at home. Practice is needed to learn and develop the skills required to perform the assigned music, as well as develop the coordination and strength to play a string instrument.
Here are some tips for good practicing:
>Make practicing part of your homework. (That's what it is for orchestra)
>Practice in a quiet location.
>Check the basics before you play. Posture, wrist, bow position...
>Warm up before you play.
>Practice what you are NOT good at!
>Isolate what needs work first, and practice it separately. Then try to include it in with the entire piece.
>Save what you're good at to end with. This way, you always end on a positive note!
