While the simulation is a simplification from the real spread of the COVID-19 disease, it can be seen that higher levels of contact tracing do indeed slow down the spread of the disease. However, this relies on individuals actively participating in the contact tracing process and comes at the cost of loss of privacy. In countries like the United States where personal freedom is highly valued, compliance towards contact tracing is difficult to achieve. Through this website, we have presented the benefits of contact tracing and hope to encourage more individuals to participate in contact tracing to reduce the spread of the disease.
The COVID-19 is an ongoing pandemic and has affected the lives of people from nearly every country around the world. This simulation looks at different levels of contact tracing, but assumes that a given percent of the population is willing to participate in the contact tracing process. In the future, we would like to expand our simulation to use actual population data for different densities of populations in the United States to observe a more practical effect of contact tracing on the spread of the COVID-19 disease.
